Scientists believe that 10 dates per day is enough to meet the daily need of a person in magnesium, copper, sulfur, half the need for iron, quarter of the need for calcium. In 100 grams of dates contains: 20.0 grams of water, 2.5 grams of proteins, 0.5 grams of fat, 69.2 grams of carbohydrates, 0.1 grams of unsaturated fatty acids, 69.2 grams of mono- and disaccharides, 6.0 g of food fibers, 0,3 g of organic acids, 1,5 g of ash. In addition, vitamins (B, – 0.05 mg, B2 – 0.05 mg, B3 – 0.8 mg, B6 – 0.1 mg, C – 0.3 mg, PP – 0.8 mg) and trace elements (iron 1.5 mg, potassium-370.0 mg, calcium – 65.0 mg, magnesium – 69.0 mg, sodium – 32.0 mg, phosphorus -56.0 mg). Caloric content – 274.0 kcal. In 1 kg of suspended dates – about 3000 calories.

For a while, the dates were famous for their healing properties. It was believed that the fruits of timeless palms give strength, endurance, increase longevity, increase male sexual potency. They strengthen the heart, liver and kidneys, promote the development of beneficial bacteria in the intestine, maintain an acid balance of the body and nourish blood, promote the development of root endings of the brain, enhance the body’s ability to withstand various infections, including viral infections. The dates are also useful for anemia and hypertension, for chest and lungs, calm cough and contribute to the withdrawal of gloom, extremely useful for brain activity. Dietary fiber contained in dates, reduces the risk of cancer.

According to its dietary properties, dates can be compared with cereals. Dietitians argue that one date and a glass of milk can provide the minimum necessary human need for nutrients. 23 species of amino acids contained in figs are absent in most other fruits. In dried dates of dates contains 60-65% of sugar – the highest percentage compared with all other fruits. Moreover, it is mainly glucose and fructose, the consumption of which does not have negative consequences for the human body in comparison with sucrose. However, at the same time, they are contraindicated for people suffering from obesity and diabetes mellitus.

The dates are recommended for pregnant and nursing women. As a result of scientific research it became clear that in dates there are special stimulants that strengthen the muscles of the uterus in the last months of pregnancy. Hence, due to them, labor is lengthened and the period of postpartum bleeding decreases. Plus, all the dates enrich the mother’s milk with vitamins, which is especially important for the baby’s health. Useful properties of dates will come to the very best of both women and pregnant women, because they have special elements that help to get rid of prenatal and postpartum depressive conditions.

The products obtained from dates are timeless honey, date sugar, date juice (alcoholic drink) and timpany palm flour, which is made from the core of the tree. Fresh dates are well kept in the refrigerator, and therefore sold all year round. Most of them are from September to May, and especially many in November. In addition, from dates do a therapeutic syrup. It prevents immunity from weakening, increases resistance to disease. Dietary syrup is recommended as a biologically active food supplement as a source of flavonoids (routine, luteolin) and sterols (beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, camposterol). Adult dose – 20 ml 1-2 times a day during meals within one month. Contraindications are the same as when taking dates: diabetes mellitus, individual intolerance to components.
